As one drives ..( handle car driving ) the car....reflects handling the life ......’’
how truth works in life.
The individual’s style of working / living is in fact a reflection of his level of truth , it reflects invariably in his every thinking, talking, doing and decides the effectiveness, correctness, and has a bearing on quality of output / consequences / results
The activity can be any thing, profound or trivial, routine or special
Truth reflects on its own in every movement, sitting, standing, walking, writing, speaking, cooking, etc, the level of truth imparts a corresponding degree of grace / beauty /richness, which is clearly perceptible, and so distinguishes the truthful individual from the rest
Conversely, one’s way of handling the life reflects
how ‘’one drives ..( handle car driving ) the car’’
seeing the episodes of repeated road accidents/ crimes/cheating/gender assaults/fire accidents /corruption etc , leads one to conclude that all is not well in the way human is handling his life
a more truthful way of living is the need of present times
an aspect of me wants to be silent, like a sadhu, muni in mauna
another aspect of me wants to be as active as a sportsman
one other is a kavi, wants to flow in mysterious poetry
yet another wants to be a mathematician to solve divine riddles
a daaku in me wants to cheat and rob,
a devatha in me wants to dwell in the darbar of devendra
an engineer in me likes to redesign the universe
i am a monkey jumping from branch to branch
a cow, chewing the cud of memories
a bird, trying to fly without wings
i am an insignificant insect,
really a tiniest speck of dust
yet within this worthless cage of flesh and bones
are truly a bundle of infinite personalities one trying excel other
a universe , compacted, packaged
delivered thru the womb of mother
what is all this, sense or nonsense?
is god, a genius or just an idiot ? or both?
i know not the truth forsooth

Combination of geetham (song), vadyam (instrument), nrithyam (dance) form sangeetham.
in this context, natya shahtra, and its details mudras, rasas, bhavas become significant,
basically spiritual pursuits lead us to capture the basics every aspect of life
when the basics are grasped, it is easy to comprehend the elaborations , and we get maximum joy in listening seeing the artistic expressions in the capacity of a connoisseur , a rasagna
thus i have developed interest in almost every branch of knowledge, internet sharing is a great help
as you said, there are opportunities to learn more
1 if you can deal ramayan, and mahabharath separately with 9 rasas applicability it will be good
we should not switch from one to other suddenly it causes some disturbance
2 visuals are distractions in the spiritual contemplation, blocks the mind in creating and enjoy its own created images
3 every scripture every episode has deeper meaning, what is the deeper meaning that you are getting out of this blog, and
4 what is the spiritual significance of navarasas in life in attaining mukthi, the prime goal?
5 do rasas require an external medium / stimuli for their manifestation
6 what are the fields in life which rasas have a major role
7 are rasas to be relished encouraged or to be despised and kept at a distance?
According to Bharata’s Natyashastra there are eight fundamental feelings or mental states referred to as Sthayibhavas which can be experienced by human beings. These are: Delight (Rati), Laughter (Hasya), sorrow (Soka), Anger (Krodha), Heroism (Utsaha), Fear (Bhaya), Disgust (Jugupsa), and wonder (Vismaya). Corresponding to these mental states are eight Rasas: the Erotic (srngara), the Comic (Hasya) the Pathetic (Karuna), the Furious (Raudra), the Heroic (Vira), the Terrible (Bhayanaka), the Odious (Bibhatasa), and the Marvelous (Adbhuta). A ninth Rasa, the Peaceful (Shanta) was later added.
The realisation of Rasa is said to result from the union of three interrelated elements – Vibhava, Anubhava and Vyabicaribhava and also the permanent mood called Sthayibhava.
For this question 7 are rasas to be relished encouraged or to be despised and kept at a distance?
in the light of your explanation, i tend to conclude, that rasas are inevitable effects and cannot be prevented from happening , so we to welcome them with the help of the permanent mood called Sthayibhava.
this is the correlation of feelings/mental states with rasas and more
“Our emotions are the gastric juices which transform this world of appearance into the more intimate world of sentiments. On the other hand, this outer world has its own juices, having their various qualities, which excite our emotional activities. This is called in our Sanskrit Rhetoric, Rasa, which signifies outer juices having their response in inner juices of our emotions. And a poem, according to it, is a sentence or sentences containing juices, which stimulate the juices of emotion. It brings to us ideas vitalized by feelings, ready to be made into the life-style of nature” Rabindranath Tagore
The fusion of Rasa theory and Bhakti is widely attributed to Rupa Gosvami, a disciple of Caitanya, who is credited with two key texts examining emotional devotion – the Bhaktirasamrtasindhu (“River of the Immortal Nectar of the Experience of Devotion”) and the Ujjvalanilamani (“The Effulgent Blazing Sapphire”). Emotional devotion begins with the ‘ordinary’ forms of love and desire felt by human beings, but the intention is to transform the ordinary into the sublime. Thus every devotee (regardless of background, caste etc.) is instructed to perform a set of basic practices. Whilst the Bhaktirasamrtasindhu details 64 Veidhi (“that which is based on rules”), there are five which are deemed to be ‘foundationational’:
* Recitation of the name of Krishna
* Remembering and savouring the exploits of Krishna as revealed in the Bhagavata Purana
* Serving the image of Krishna in temples
* Living in the company of holy men
* Living in the mandala of Mathura or Braj (Mathura is the reputed birthplace of Krishna)
By constantly turning one’s mind towards Krishna, the devotee begins a process which – gradually – becomes profound devotion. The basic human emotions are themselves insufficient, and must be continually refined. The devotee learns, progressively, to recognise all the various factors which either intensify or distract from this divine love. Gradually, the devotee learns how to transform the emotion (bhava) of ordinary desire (kama) into the pure and selfless love known as prema. For the advanced devotee, the 64 sadhanas are not mechanical ritual acts, but spontaneous expressions of love, the experience of which is to taste the Rasa – the pure essence of Love. Krishna is the source of Rasa, and there cannot, for devotees, be any Rasa apart from Krishna.
Any devotee whose mind is completely focused on Krishna will, it is said, involuntarily display evidence of that devotion, so that here, the Sattvikabhavas become markers of intense devotion.
Gosvami divides the path of the devotee into three stages. The first is that of Vaidhi-Bhakti, in which the devotee purifies his feelings using the aforementioned practices. The second stage is termed Raganuga-Bhakti – “the devotion of passion”. In this stage, the devotee is said to become a divine participant within the lila of Krishna, and does so by dwelling on the emotional feelings of love exchanged between Krishna and his parents, playmates, and the Gopis. Devotees engaged in Raganuga-Bhakti model their emotions on these divine ideal types. There are five appropriate moods: the Santa-Rasa (peaceful mood, as expressed for example, by meditating sages); the Dasya-Rasa (mood of servitude, as expressed by Krishna’s servants); the Sakhya-Rasa (mood of friendship); the Vatslya-Rasa (mood of parenthood – i.e. Krishna’s parents) and the Madhurya-Rasa (the conjugal mood expressed for example by the Gopis). Through Raganuga-Bhakti, the devotee is able to taste the Rasa (essence) of the players in Krishna’s lila. The final stage of devotion is that of Ragatmika-Bhakti – the perfected love of Krishna as experienced by the Gopis and other actors in Krishna’s Lila.
this is the great implied process of progressive transformation ,,the master key in this ''Emotional devotion begins with the ‘ordinary’ forms of love and desire felt by human beings, but the intention is to transform the ordinary into the sublime''.
Rasa is about human state of mind. Its about what the mind feels and the expression of the feeling thereafter. In the Bharata’s Natyashastra, Rasa is an emotion experienced by the audience created by the facial expression or the Bhava of the actor. In indian classical dance it is referred to as Rasa-abhinaya.
Human life is a rich fabric that is given colour and texture by the many happenings that shape it. The mundane actions that characterize every day as well as the extraordinary happenings that make and keep our lives interesting are all threads that get woven together to form this tapestry. The one thing that is common to all these threads is the fact that they evoke feelings in us, we respond to them with our emotions before they can become a part of our internal life. Indeed, life can be thought of as a continuous sequence of emotions that arise in various contexts and circumstances. These emotions, or rasas, are what give life different hues, shades and colours.
8 how the art of acting on the drama is related to nava rasas
9 is villain in real life is only actor
10 an actor acting a villain role how he feels on the rasa effect on his personality/ on personal life
11 are rasas are artificially induced, or natural responses?
9, 10 depends on how strong the personality the person carries.
11)Rasa can be understood as a dynamic experience between the artist, expression, and those who receive it. The artist experiences an emotion and is so overwhelmed by it that he seeks a medium with which to express those feelings. The one who views the artists’ work receives this emotion through the artists’ medium and so experiences the same emotion felt by the creator. The extent to which the viewer experiences the emotion felt by the creator depends on both the creator’s aptitude in presenting the work and the viewers’ aptitude to receive it.
''The extent to which the viewer experiences the emotion felt by the creator depends on both the creator’s aptitude in presenting the work and the viewers’ aptitude to receive it.''
leads me to say it is a factor of ''rasagnatha'' the capacity of the individuals to create , to share, to receive, it is a valuable trait of the personality, beyond the surface /superficiality
A key text which deals with the emotional theory of Rasa is the Natyashastra (the Textbook on Drama), attributed to Bharata Muni (some academics believe that it is more likely to be a compilation by several different authors). Bharata ascribed a divine origin to drama and considered it to be a fifth Veda. The Natyashastra primarily deals with theatre, dance & musical performance. According to the Natyashastra, the major purpose of dance, drama, ritual and poetry is catalytic in that aesthetic performance should provoke an emotion that is already present in members of the audience. The various elements of a performance combine to create a sympathetic response in those who experience them. Moreover, a member of the audience who has cultivated his or her own aesthetic response may experience a transformation of their own emotion into a purely aesthetic, transcendental feeling – an experience of divine bliss. This is the transformation of Bhava (“mood”) into its essence – Rasa. (NB: A scholar or connoisseur is sometimes referred to as a rasika).
---A scholar or ''connoisseur'' is sometimes referred to as a'' rasika''
yes, he discovers the value and enjoys more, in turn inspires the artist

various luminaries .

Authentic experience of divinity
astanga yes truly limbs they are, ,
not asta sopanas, they are not steps
samadhi is the fundamental from which,
thru experience of which,
-----the limbs grow simultaneously in a natural way
there are no preliminary steps
directly samadhi is to be experienced right in the beginning
and the virtues will be blossoming as the intensity of samadhi deepens
this is to be understood the tradition has been to give the initiation at the earliest young stage in life , enabling one to experience samadhi, directly, instantly without any preparatory steps. in a matter of a few days or a few weeks , in which his experience is checked errors corrected and he is left on his practice, fully validated to continue the practice over months, years
Initially the experience of samadhi is momentary,
he gets just a momentary glimpse of the pure awareness, the absolute, the parabrahma, beyond the entire range of the mind---and this one glimpse has given all the wisdom of million books in a moment. this is called lighting the inner lamp , which immediately removes all ignorance of the understanding of life, reveals to him the unified perspective in life, never to need of searching any more
This is called kshanika samadhi, a momentary experience of the state of samadhi for a fraction of a second in deep meditatin, with this one sitting , yes, he has become the enlightened, since his inner light is lit.
after his coming out , this experience will not sustain , so he has to again meditate , thus every morning, mid day and evening, thrikalsandhya.
as the practice of experience of samadhi grows, samadhi persists in his activity , stablelly
The experience of samadhi more and more , opens up all mental and physical potentialities or powers, this is called watering the root , sadhana regularly, sincerely, persistently, now is the time his body starts experiencing such flexibility ,agility, coordination ,health, and spontaneity, the astangas , 8 limbs start growing, his body mind becoming effortlessly n alinment with laws of nature, a virtuous life, a automatc self controlled life in his think talk walk
As the practice matures, this kshanika samadhi becomes nithya samadhi, 24x7, heightened awareness getting established in his body mind nervous sysetem, --unbroken samadhi prevails amidst al his dynamic activity , here he has gained ''yogastha kuru karmani---'' ie he acts while he is in fully samadhi and skill in action develops yogah karma sukaushalam
Thus pl understand that it is the samadhi first is the thing starting point in yoga sadhana , not the other limbs, nothing is prerequiite
this is placing the horse before the cart , and enabling the horse to make the cart to move and run efficiently.
it is generally misunderstood that we must be first virtuous to see god
no ,we must first experience god then his great virtues will be ours.
that is why the importance of samadhi first
otherwise it is cart before the horse, never is the possibility of cart moving a bit
most of dos and donts are result of this basic misunderstanding.
in matured sadhana level ,there are no imposed dos and donts by others or by self ---it is just a state of natural mastery over body mid resulting in all good behavoiur , a life in acc with laws of nature, no negative tendensies or nothing to set right, as things go just right

and then

How to enhance and practice analytical and critical thinking?.
...........................basic requirement is a cool non emotional mind, not jumping to quick conclusions, but to patiently do a thorough scrutiny of all data and also evaluate by trial and error / sample testing on real plane
any amount of reading/writing will lead us nowhere, it should lead us to a guru who only can clarify , not alone by theory ,but ,more important, by practice and direct experience thru which ability will be gained to see things like in day light, instantly, by switching on the light. it all depends on us how serious are we, and on what the purpose of life is otherwise it is a wasted effort resulting in no gain at the end
as is , in unenlightened state it is aham , my body mind , my kith kin
2 in samadhi ,only aham unmanifest , no universe, , no i, nothing more nothing less, pure i exist

Sir, thank you , at above post , you have nicely cautioned this ---''once the relaxed state is disturbed-----the whole purpose is lost-''
a agree. PASSION AND PERSEVERANCE is not required, rather is obstruction
in fact since every one keeps doing with PASSION AND PERSEVERANCE, things will not be fetching the result , hence waste
you rightly corrected
this is the error inadvertently most people do .without right guidance/ understanding on this subtle practice .
the settled state of mind, the wholeness, that is reached in samadhi should not get disturbed.
the wish must be just done so subtlely that as if like a just effortless thought , and left to merge in the wholeness back again .
in this process of ''returning to merge in the wholeness'' , the thought gets materialized , desire is fulfilled, the wholeness has that power, and so PASSION AND PERSEVERANCE will be obstruction,'' innocence and effortless'' helps REPLYDELETE Like (1) Block this user

Thanks both Ajit ji and Sri Ni for your views,
Let me tell you that i see no reason why this simple relaxation and working with the seeds of affirmation has to be taken to the level of pure effortless state of samadhi.
this practice that i have mentioned, is a simple suggestive method of reorienting the subconscious so that the subconscious can materialize what ever is the essence of the affirmation impregnated.
But i do appreciate and do agree that at the deepest level the whole point of passion or perseverance do not have any bearing. But of course both have its play when someone is trying to move into the zone of relaxed state of mind. As i said effort first and then effortlessness.
Once again my love and gratitude to both of you. REPLY Like Report Offensive Block this user

With humility, i submit
the reason why this simple relaxation and working with the seeds of affirmation has to be ---necessarily ----taken to the level of pure effortless state of samadhi --is as follows
these seeds are to be necessarily planted in the fertile / nourishing field , ie ,samadhi, the pure consciousness, if to really sprout , grow, flourish , into manifest reality of practical, mundane plane as a fulfilled desire, without loss of time, but not to remain as a life long wish, a seed as /hope/ giving temporary and marginal relief , naa alpa sukhamasthu, little gains will not be real joy.
the difference between a wise and unwise is that
the unwise does things , with all self imposed passion etc, with all external impositions by teachers even , but does not succeed in getting the fullest real results, but ends up in small gains, suffering continues , mainly
the wise does things ,but with the help of samadhi, with the help of that great real power in samadhi, which immediately causes the seed to fruition, without loss of time , and in abundance, no more suffering, all blessings only , all round,
hence the importance of being in yogastha, in doing karma , gross or subtle, but subtler the activity, greater is its impact.
and samadhi, ie yoga, makes the karma sukaushalam, makes the doer skillful, successful, with ''spend less , gain more'' technique
here comes the need for guru guidance to gain mastery over reaching samadhi
for doing little and accomplishing lot , a wise approach
Ignorant states
''if wishes were horses beggars will ride'' , he does not know the technique, his wishes all with passion perseverance, remain unfulfilled
wiseman says
you can make your wishes into horses and jolly well ride on them
yatheenaam brahma bhavathi sarathi
for wise spiritual god himself becomes his servant at his beck and call
this we did see in the life of great saints, and it is possible to live in our own life REPLYDELETE Like Block this user

Great explanation! Thanks for your deep wisdom and your sharing.
I still hold on to my first statement, and i will not comment any more on this, but agree with you for everything you say on this, and that is,
any act of relaxation or any kind of sadhana is essentially to begin with is deep intention and deeper level of patience and perseverance that gradually takes the simple effort into a state of effortless flow ... REPLY Like (1) Report Offensive Block this user

First part ---''any act of relaxation or any kind of sadhana is essentially to begin with is deep intention and deeper level of patience and perseverance''-----ok, it is shadha, a must , this is preparatory , a propulsion ,to initiate and to sustain
surely i do not discount this
the second part ---'' the simple effort into a state of effortless flow ...''---in this i see a lot more
A----in arghya we simply take palmful water from the ocean [ simple effort ], and we just allow the water to drop back into the ocean , effortless flow happens
B---in the same way, while in the process of sadhana , in / from samadhi state, [ in / from the ocean of consciousness ] we just take the positive seeds of assertions of happiness [etc] with least mental effort, at subtle level , and leave this thought to merge back into the onsciousness.
we do not persist on it , we do not keep the water in the palm , we just allow it to drop down , to effortlessly reach back its own source
in this most simplest elastic property of the process of pulling out and leaving back on to its origin , that the wish gets materialized, here the silence of the absolute is stirred a little , as if the god is awakened to listen to our particular desire/ command and enabled to answer with his response ie of fulfilling the desire
C---we enter the temple, silence, and ring the bell, with a little effort, stir the silence, and the sound vanishes back in to the silence . here god is awakened , he listens to our inner subtle assertions and answers , and our desire is fulfilled .
D---the process in it's simplicity is that---- the wholeness is collapsed and allowed to regain the wholeness, in the process of regaining its original state the wish is getting fulfilled
E---so i re-emphasize the first and foremost requirement of reaching first the state of samadhi, the wholeness, and learn to collapse it -----not severely----but most delicately------in least degree, ----such that the stirred / collapsed wholeness, subtly disturbed samadhi has a chance of rebuilding itself immediately in to original wholeness
F----seeking a boon from god is a subtle process, like gently humbly , prayerfully asking a great rishi in samadhi , a shiva in deep meditation, ----so that he just comes out a little and gets back into his samadhi smoothly
if one is forceful. insistent, compelling, shaking him violently disturbing beyond a limit, that tapaswi is disturbed so much that he cannot go back in to samadhi immediately , he will simply give a curse, instead of a boon
G----my writing this is due to reading your responses making me to explore the leads a little more in detail , foo my own clarity. you may kindly tolerate / ignore , your time is precious
the point i was making is
one must know how exactly god fulfills our assertions , what is the deeper mechanism in this spiritual process
making vinayak into sidhi vinayak
making hanuman into sankata mochan hanuman
making god into varadayaka, the boon granter
and it is devotee who makes him prasanna, in readiness to grant boons
if devotee does not approach in the right way, god cannot help, though he can help Reply delete Like Block this user

No
in samadhi, the restful alertness , the relaxed state is just without feeling or effort, just being
a straw gains value by falling in to the stream of consciousness
all experiences, observations, memories, impressions,--- learnt , acquired, accumulated---all good bad useless, ---are insignificant straws, in the mind
in fact they are debris, a burden blocking the creativity of an ordinary man, some times causing harm, making him ineffective , binding him to conformity to degenerate ways of living--the sanskaars.
he does not know how to come out or get rid of them
but for an enlightened man ,a rishi, a poet, the vary same straws become the raw materials for him to construct a poem, to create a melody, ----to innovate an universe. since he is a flow, chethna,he is not static., jada
he is the stream of consciousness, chethana sravanthi
in the stream, the same straw s in his mind come out as beautiful expressions, chunks of truths.
he uses the same alphabets, same words, idiom grammar but what comes out is a artistic creation ,
thus the ordinary things become extraordinary in his expression, gaining value by association with the stream
his mind a sheet clean
his imagination the fluent pen
his ink the consciousness
with him
the dictionary flows
the alphabet glows
poetry is as deep as the rishi is
when rishi is rooted in the field of infinite creativity,
his every utterance is a poetry, and a novelty
extend it to god
an ordinary individual , a stone , in rama kaarya, does not drown, becomes a raw material to construct the sethu , gaining infinite value by just being with him, the chethna
